Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
2014
Adidas has created the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup since 1970.
For the 2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, the brand created the Brazuca edition with a multi-coloured ribbon pattern inspired by traditional Brazilian wish bracelets.
We were asked to create a fun and vibrant immersive experience for the high-profile launch event at the Parque Lage in the Royal Botanical Gardens of Rio de Janeiro.
We designed a huge 2-metre inflatable ball as a centrepiece, and projected a dynamic visual narrative onto its surface, which illustrated the designs of all the previous Adidas tournament footballs before finally revealing the Brazuca’s unique pattern.
We also projected visuals onto the mansion walls, reflecting the graphic look of the Adidas federation teams through colours and patterns, and kicked-off the official countdown to the start of the FIFA tournament.
Throughout the rest of the glamorous party, a live video feed played our bespoke animations inspired by traditional Brazilian graphic design.
